Wild South Dakota is a beautiful place to travel. The Black Hills are the highest point east of the Rockies, with peaks in excess of 7,000 feet., covering about 6,000 sq. miles. Camping, dining, shopping and more are available along the Missouri River. When Lewis and Clark traveled the Missouri in 1804 it was winding and shallow. Today it has been dammed to create South Dakota’s Great Lakes. American Indian reservations, Lewis and Clark sites and small towns rest along its banks.

Get a taste of pioneer life at the Laura Ingalls Wilder Pageant in De Smet, and tour the house where the Ingalls spent their first Dakota winter. Visit the Milbank Train Festival and see a mock train robbery. Sample American Indian culture in the land where Dances With Wolves, Teddy Roosevelt and the Rough Riders & Crazy Horse were filmed.
