Scenic highways include the Savannah River National Scenic Highway, especially striking in the spring and fall; the Cherokee Foothills National Scenic Highway, following an ancient Cherokee path through peach orchards and villages; the Ashley River Road National Scenic Byway, also originally a trading path for American Indians; the Overmountain Victory National Historic Trail commemorating the route taken by American militia in 1780 in defeating the British at Kings Mountain; the Revolutionary War Trail, passing battlefields and headquarters; and the South Carolina National Heritage Corridor, 240 miles from Charleston to the Blue Ridge Mountains.

Seasonal events include such diverse things as the Winter Carnival, Native Islander Gullah Celebration, Camellia Walks, NASCAR racing in Darlington, Swamp Fox Symposium, Winefest, Scottish Country Fair, the Governor’s Frog Jump Festival, Peach Blossom Festival, Cajun Festival, Olde Town Artisan’s Fair and much, much more.
