New York travel is fun to plan: here are some great trip ideas and destinations for your New York vacation.

Just about everybody who travels to New York State makes sure that they visit New York City. Among some of the top must–see’s are: the Bronx Zoo, Yankee Stadium and the NY Yankees, Coney Island, Apollo Theater, Central Park and Central Park Zoo, Chinatown and Little Italy, the Empire State Building, Grand Central Station, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Radio City Music Hall, Rockefeller Center, Shea Stadium and the NY Mets, St. Patrick’s Cathedral, and of course, the Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island.

Traveling through the Hudson Valley, you “Must-See” Bear Mountain State Park, Vanderbilt Mansion, Franklin D Roosevelt Estate, Washington’s Headquarters State Historic Site, and West Point. The Hudson Valley has picturesque villages, palatial historic homes, and great antiquing.

In the Catskills you’ll find scenic mountains and beautiful waterfalls, lush forests, gurgling creeks and sparkling lakes. You won’t want to miss whitewater rafting, canoeing and horseback riding.

The Capital-Saratoga Region is the seat of the State Capitol, Albany, renowned for the graceful architecture of the capitol building. This region has historic battlefields, river cruises, interesting museums and famed mineral springs. Don’t miss the Saratoga National Historical Park and the Roosevelt Mineral Baths.

The Adirondacks Region features, of course, spectacular mountain peaks. In addition, certain must-see’s include Lake Placid, Fort Ticonderoga, High Falls Gorge and the Lake Champlain Revolutionary War Historic Sites.

Lake Ontario and the St. Lawrence River dominate your experience in the Thousand Islands-Seaway region. Named for the nearly 2,000 islands, this region is reminiscent of a fairytale landscape. You must see Boldt Castle, Lake Ontario, and Wellesley Island State Park.

Underground caverns and waterfalls epitomize the natural wonders in the Central-Leatherstocking Region. Some of the top must-see’s include Howe Caverns, the Secret Caverns and the Iroquois Indian Museum as well as the Old Stone Fort Museum complex.

The Finger Lakes Region has vineyards and rolling hills, world-renowned museums and exciting cities. You must see the Harriet Tubman Home, National Warplane Museum, and Erie Canal Museum.

The Greater Niagara Region features Niagara Falls, Old Fort Niagara, and Letchworth State Park, as well as the renowned architecture and art centers of Buffalo.

The Chautauqua-Allegheny Region is home to Amish and Native American people, and features championship golf, vineyards and beautiful hiking trails. You shouldn’t miss Dunkirk Historical Lighthouse and Veterans Park Museum, Griffis Sculpture Park, and Allegany State Park.

New York is marking the 250th anniversary of the French and Indian War over 2005 through 2010. Battle reenactments, special events and guided tours will be held at forts and historic sites throughout the state. You can find some of these events at Fort Ticonderoga (which holds several each year), the Fort William Henry Museum, and Old Fort Niagara.
